Robert E. Griffin, Jr. is Newmark’s Co-Head of U.S. Capital Markets and one of the nation’s top capital markets executives. He is an established leader in the marketing, sale and recapitalization of assets and development sites spanning all real estate categories, including office, life science, data center, industrial, retail, medical, academic, hospitality and multi-family. In addition to servicing his clients, Griffin focuses on expanding Newmark’s Capital Markets platform by establishing top-tier teams in gateway cities across the United States.
Throughout his 40+ year career, Griffin and his team have closed 1,000+ transactions with total consideration of $140+ billion. His team-based, 360-degree approach and unrivaled breadth of experience advising many of the country’s major owners, developers, lenders and financial institutions have been game-changers for every client with whom he has had the opportunity to work.
Griffin’s recent transaction experience includes serving as the Project Executive for the $52 billion Signature Bank loan sale on behalf of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Completed in 2023, this transaction is the largest real estate loan sale on record in United States history. Additionally, Griffin and his team have overseen $20+ billion of life science sales since 2020. These transactions were completed on behalf of some of the sector’s largest landlords, including Alexandria Real Estate Equities and BioMed Realty.
Griffin also recently co-founded the latest evolution of the nation’s leading mission-critical practice, Newmark’s Data Center Capital Consulting group, which combines capital markets acumen with subject matter experts in data center design, infrastructure, power and cooling. Established in 2023, this new group is already engaged in $3+ billion of transactions across hyperscale, colocation and enterprise data centers and entitled development sites totaling more than five gigawatts of power and thousands of acres of land. The group’s client list includes a “who’s who” roster of data center developers, hyperscalers, landowners and colocation operators/occupiers.
Finally, Griffin works with Newmark’s Boston-based leasing teams on complex, high-profile assignments. He joined Newmark in 2015 after serving as President of the New England Area for Cushman & Wakefield, where he built one of the nation’s most successful capital markets groups and advised the firm’s Boston leasing teams.
